Monasteries route - Route through world heritage Portuguese monasteries
The Monastery of Batalha is situated in the town of Batalha, and is part of the Unesco World Heritage.
Departing from Batalha, we can explore the other two great monuments of the list of Unesco World Heritage, and which also make part of the so called Rota dos Mosteiros – the Route of the Monasteries, the Monastery of Alcobaça and the Convent of Christ, in Tomar.
Rota dos Mosteiros is a project from IGESPAR, and its purpose is to integrate the management of these three important monasteries of the West Coast, aiming to explore its multiple potentialities and to emphasize the crucial role of the national heritage to Portugal and to the world.
These three monasteries have an enormous historical and architectonical importance, also representing the battle fields of the Middle Ages, in the Monastery of Batalha, the Order of Christ, in the Monastery of Alcobaça and the Templar Order, in the Convent of Christ in Tomar.
